All our rooms are non-smoking, but each has its own balcony with a table and chairs and an ashtray so that, if you are a smoker, you can sit outside and enjoy the lovely view and, if you are a non-smoker, you do not have a room smelling of stale smoke.

Do you give early check-in or late checkout?

Of course, we are delighted to do this if we have space on the day, but we cannot guarantee it. Guests arriving early in the morning may have to wait until their room has been vacated, officially no earlier than 12 noon, and cleaned, although some departing guests also leave early in the morning. Guests leaving late in the day are welcome to have their checkout extended if the room is not needed straightaway, although we may ask that their room be cleaned, leaving them shower facilities before they continue their journey. If their room is needed, we try our best to find them alternative shower facilities. In this way, they can enjoy the whole of the last day.

What is the beach like and the sea for swimming?

The sea directly outside our hotel is usually OK for swimming between November and March but the rest of the year it is too shallow. Swimming then is better 70 meters along the beach. We sweep the beach in front of our hotel two to three times a week so that it is clean and, although the sand here is not the finest and the whitest, we have a breathtaking view of Koh Phangan, Koh Som and the other outlying islands and it is so quiet, (no jetskiis or hawkers here), that it seems almost private. We prefer our beach with its spectacular view to one with fine, white sand and no view at all and most guests agree.

Do you have a swimming pool?

Yes, we do. It is natural salt water, 12 metres by 6 metres, has three steps inside the pool the full width of the pool at the shallow end where it is 1.2 metres deep for 3 metres of the pool and goes deeper to 1.6 metres at the deepest part. There is a ledge of 15 cms around the pool for guests to take a rest, if they wish. We have not planted as much as before around the pool so that the whole area is more open and it is easier to see the beach and the sea just next to it. We are sure you will love it too!

There is a new waterpark being built on the island at the moment.

What do you suggest for transport from Bangkok to Samui?

We always suggest Bangkok Airways to Samui airport as it is only ten minutes away and you can book online at www.bangkokair.com Occasionally, guests have tried flying into Suratthani airport on the mainland as the flights to and from are less expensive, but this leaves a further three to four hours of travel by road and sea to get here and that’s if everything runs to schedule! Sometimes it just worth spending the money!

What is the weather like?

This is impossible to predict. Most of the year, it is beautiful here. All we can promise is that it won’t be cold.

Do I need to pack lots of clothes?

No, most guests say that they have packed far too much and then, when they try to fit all their shopping into their suitcases, find that there is no room! It is very relaxed on the island and often very hot, so swimwear and a few cool clothes are really all that is required. We have a daily laundry service which is not expensive, so why not take advantage of that and leave yourself lots of space for your purchases? Don’t forget to pop in that favourite item of clothing that you wish you’d bought ten of – you’ll be able to get it copied here very reasonably!

Shall I bring Baht with me or change my currency when I arrive?

Wait until you arrive as you will obtain a much better rate. You can always go the bank or use your card in an ATM machine. Do advise your own bank that you are coming as sometimes credit cards get blocked. However, the currencies of India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Taiwan appear to have quite heavy costs if cash is changed. Also, beware that Scottish currency can never be used in Thailand – it isn’t even accepted by the bank
