Frequently Asked Questions
Is breakfast included in the price?
Answer : We certainly do include a breakfast in the price. It comprises fruit, fruit juice, cereal, fresh coffee or a choice of tea, and we have a large menu from which you may choose your freshly cooked breakfast. You may enjoy this inside or outside on our decking. Lovely views may be observed from both venues.
What is the difference between a room and a bungalow?
Answer : A bungalow has a queensize bed. A room is a little bigger with a kingsize bed. Both have a bathroom. See below re Honeymoon/Superior Room.
What is an Upstair Room?
Answer : We have two upstair rooms. One has a queensize bed and one has a kingsize bed. Although both rooms share a long balcony with one other room, they have a semi-private seating area. Because of this and because it is an upstair room, we charge our least inexpensive rate, that is our bungalow rate. Both rooms sleep two adults and have the same facilities inside as our other rooms.
Tell me about the Honeymoon/Superior Room?
Answer : This room is a little bigger than our normal Deluxe Rooms and has twin showers, twin basins and a lovely picture window overlooking the outlying islands.
What is the difference between the Family Bungalow and the Family Suite?
Answer : They both have two bedrooms, one with kingsize bed and one with kingsize bed or twin beds, a sitting room with sofa and chairs and a bathroom. However, the Family Bungalow is a little better situated, being just that bit nearer the beach with its own private balcony.
Could you tell me about the Family Apartment/Honeymoon Suite?
Answer : The Family Apartment is on the first floor, but still has lovely views and is beachfront.. It comprises one large bedroom with kingsize bed with its own private balcony, one large bathroom with twin showers and twin basins, one large sitting room with large TV and DVD player, sofa and chairs and two single beds – this room also has a long balcony. Please take note that the bathroom leads off the master bedroom, so this accommodation is best suited to families or couples.
Do you have smoking and non-smoking rooms?
Answer : All our rooms are non-smoking, but each has its own balcony with a table and chairs and an ashtray so that, if you are a smoker, you can sit outside and enjoy the lovely view and, if you are a non-smoker, you do not have a room smelling of stale smoke.
Do you give early check-in or late checkout?
Answer : Of course, we are delighted to do this if we have space on the day, but we cannot guarantee it. Guests arriving early in the morning may have to wait until their room has been vacated, officially no earlier than 12 noon, and cleaned, although some departing guests also leave early in the morning. Guests leaving late in the day are welcome to have their checkout extended if the room is not needed straightaway, although we may ask that their room be cleaned, leaving them shower facilities before they continue their journey. If their room is needed, we try our best to find them alternative shower facilities. In this way, they can enjoy the whole of the last day.
Do you pick up from the ferry?
Answer : No, we do not pick up from any ferry due to the many problems we have experienced in the past. Sometimes a guest has had to take a different ferry at a different time and, if we do not know, this cannot involve hours of waiting and confusion. It is quite easy to take a taxi from any port to our hotel.
Do you serve food all day?
Answer : Breakfast is from 7.30am – 11.00am, (details above). We have quite an extensive menu and serve freshly cooked food at competitive prices all day until about 6.30pm. There are very good restaurants in our charming village of Bophut and, unlike many other hotels, especially 5-stars, we actively encourage our guests to go out and enjoy varied experiences so that they have a good all round holiday and hopefully come back!
Is it easy to rent a jeep, motorbike or bicycle?
Answer : Yes, it is easy. We have some motorbikes at the hotel and have a reliable jeep supplier. We also have bicycles which you may borrow free of charge.
Can we get to the Full Moon party and where is it?
Answer : The Full Moon party is on Koh Phangan and it is easy to get there from Koh Samui, in fact it is one of the islands figured in our splendid view from The Waterfront.
Do you have any baby equipment?
Answer : Yes, we have highchairs, baby baths, cots, toys and a children’s menu. Nappies, baby milk and food, etc, may be purchased locally and there is also quite a selection of baby clothes too.
What is the beach like and the sea for swimming?
Answer : The sea directly outside our hotel is usually OK for swimming between November and March but the rest of the year it is too shallow. Swimming then is better 70 meters along the beach. We sweep the beach in front of our hotel two to three times a week so that it is clean and, although the sand here is not the finest and the whitest, we have a breathtaking view of Koh Phangan, Koh Som and the other outlying islands and it is so quiet, (no jetskiis or hawkers here), that it seems almost private. We prefer our beach with its spectacular view to one with fine, white sand and no view at all and most guests agree.
Do you have a swimming pool?
Answer : Yes, we do. We have just changed it, (November 2013), and we love it! It is natural salt water, 12 metres by 6 metres, has three steps inside the pool the full width of the pool at the shallow end where it is 1.2 metres deep for 3 metres of the pool and goes deeper to 1.6 metres at the deepest part. There is a ledge of 15 cms around the pool for guests to take a rest, if they wish. We have not planted as much as before around the pool so that the whole area is more open and it is easier to see the beach and the sea just next to it. We are sure you will love it too!
Is there a bar?
Answer : Yes, there is a bar and it closes at varying times, depending on the clientele. Many of our guests have an aperitif before going out to dine in the evening and return to have another one or two before retiring for the night.
Are there many activities on the island and/or trips available?
Answer : Yes, there are including boat trips to other islands where you can dive, snorkel or kayake. On Samui you can elephant ride or trek, horseride, fish, canopy ride, jetski, banana boat, go-cart, quadbike, learn to cook Thai, play golf, pitch and putt or tenpin bowl, to name but a few. There is a new waterpark being built on the island at the moment.
What do you suggest for transport from Bangkok to Samui?
Answer : We always suggest Bangkok Airways to Samui airport as it is only ten minutes away and you can book online at www.bangkokair.com Occasionally, guests have tried flying into Suratthani airport on the mainland as the flights to and from are less expensive, but this leaves a further three to four hours of travel by road and sea to get here and that’s if everything runs to schedule! Sometimes it just worth spending the money!
Do I need to pack lots of clothes?
Answer : No, most guests say that they have packed far too much and then, when they try to fit all their shopping into their suitcases, find that there is no room! It is very relaxed on the island and often very hot, so swimwear and a few cool clothes are really all that is required. We have a daily laundry service which is not expensive, so why not take advantage of that and leave yourself lots of space for your purchases? Don’t forget to pop in that favourite item of clothing that you wish you’d bought ten of – you’ll be able to get it copied here very reasonably!
Shall I bring Baht with me or change my currency when I arrive?
Answer : Wait until you arrive as you will obtain a much better rate. You can always go the bank or use your card in an ATM machine. Do advise your own bank that you are coming as sometimes credit cards get blocked. However, the currencies of India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Taiwan appear to have quite heavy costs if cash is changed. Also, beware that Scottish currency can never be used in Thailand – it isn’t even accepted by the bank
